November 27, 2002 -- Kansas City's Boulevard Brewing cited for marketing excellence
America’s small brewers, at their annual banquet, honored excellence in marketing and industry defense, presenting the Brewers’ Association of America Marketing Excellence award to Boulevard Brewing Co. and their F.X. Matt Defense of the Industry Award to Mike McKinney, Texas Wholesalers’ Association.
"Each year we acknowledge extraordinary effort on the part of individuals and organizations," said Daniel Bradford, President, Brewers’ Association of America. "These awards recognize people and companies who have stepped out, going beyond conventional, to deliver unprecedented results."
Boulevard Brewing Co. received the 2002 Marketing Award for dominating their local market. In an unprecedented step the BAA awarded this years’ F.X. Matt Defense of the Industry Award to a wholesaler. Mike McKinney, president of the Texas Wholesalers Association accepted the award on behalf of the wholesalers of Texas. McKinney and his members successfully brought the White House’s attention to an atrocious anti-beer advertisement being produced by one it its own organizations, the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Having received a hearing, their arguments were persuasive and another piece of disinformation was removed.
"We look to celebrate those who make a statement about the possibilities of the beer industry," adds Bradford. "We want the industry to be inspired by these people and businesses, and look to their own work for opportunities for excellence."
