Breaking News - Beer and Barbecue: A Perfect Match

May 16, 2001 -- Redhook Ales Teams up with Tom Douglas to create new Barbecue Sauces

Noted chef Tom Douglas always believed that great beer and great barbecue go together, so naturally it was only a matter of time before Tom teamed up with Redhook to create a line of tempting sauces featuring a variety of Redhook beers in the recipe. Tom has been cooking in Seattle for more than twenty years. He's a James Beard Award winner and he owns three of Seattle's most remarkable restaurants.

The three sauces currently available are:

Tom crafted this sauce to showcase the complexity of Redhook's Blackhook Porter. This well-hopped beer has a distinctive, dark malt flavor. The addition of smokey chipotle and molasses makes this an extraordinary barbecue sauce.

Tom Douglas' Redhook ESB Barbecue Sauce with Smoked Chilies and Honey

Accents of cumin, cilantro and smoked chilies are combined with fragrant fireweed honey in this delicious sauce. Combined wit the rich, round flavors of Redhook's ESB, this is a classic tomato-based barbecue sauce.

Tom Douglas' Redhook Spicy Blond Barbecue Sauce with Jalapeno and Mango

The pilsner-like qualities of Redhook's Blonde Ale are paired with a sweet-hot combination of ripe mango and jalapeno chilies. The spiciest in the line of three sauces, Spicy Blonde is a vibrant, medium-hot sauce that adds zest to your barbcued foods.
