Breaking News - Wynkoop Presents Beer Drinker of the Year Award
February 1, 2000 -- New Jersey mailman selected 2000 Beerdrinker of the Year.
After a nationwide search, a panel of nine beer experts has selected Steve Pawlowski of Roselle Park, New Jersey, as The 2000 Beerdrinker of the Year.
Pawlowski is a 51-year-old letter carrier who-at last count- had tasted 7,153 different brews from 45 states and 77 countries and has them all recorded in his Beer Log.
At the National Finals held at the Wynkoop Brewing Company in Denver on January 22, Pawlowski and the other two Final Finalists were subjected to two hours of interrogation about their experiences with and knowledge of brewing and beer history.
Pawlowski: "My family, beer and brewing have been the most important things in this life for the past 28 years-although my wife would question the order."
The annual search for the Beerdrinker of the Year is conducted by the Wynkoop Brewing Company which flew the three Final Finalists to Denver to compete for the championship in front of an audience and the panel of judges, all wearing judicial robes and wigs.
The other Final Finalists-both highly qualified candidates with great knowledge of beer and a tremendous appreciation of it-were Cornelia Corey, an information processing consultant from Clemmons, North Carolina, and Bob Coleman, an attorney from San Francisco.
As winner, Pawlowski wins free beer for life at the Wynkoop Brewing Company and $100 worth of beer at his home brewpub, J.J. Bitting Brewing Company of Woodbridge, New Jersey.

1999 Beerdrinker of the Year.
