Breaking News - Fish Brewing and Republic of Cascadia to dedicate new Consulate on Earth Day
April 21, 2000 -- Consul General Readies His Ribbon-Cutters
OLYMPIA, Wa., With a commitment to "bring the measure of my authority and ability to bear," Dennis Lyon, the new Consul General of the Republic of Cascadia, pledged today to provide "good health, good cheer, great beer, and a sunny day" for those attending dedication ceremonies for the new Cascadian Consulate and Cultural Center.
Lyon will officiate ribbon-cutting ceremonies at 3:00 p.m. on April 22. The Cascadian Consulate and Cultural Center is located in downtown Olympia at 515 Jefferson St. S.E., also the site of the Fish Brewing Company's Fishbowl Brewpub. Coinciding with Earth Day and accenting the ceremonies will be the introduction of Detonator Doppelbock, the newest fruit of Cascadia's long-famed brewing tradition. A very strong lager dedicated to the removal of salmon-killing dams and the restoration of free-flowing rivers, Detonator aged for four months in merlot-soaked oaken wine casks before its release.
By way of casting the lime-light on Cascadia's premier craft of brewing, the Consulate will grant complimentary Cascadian passports to its first 100 guests to choose Detonator from the many beers of the Republic made available at the dedication.
"We are going to celebrate this momentous event by highlighting our brewers' finest," said Lynette Bert, staff coordinator of the Consulate's cultural office and manager of the Fishbowl Brewpub. According to Bert, other of Cascadia's celebrated ales, including Wild Salmon Pale Ale and a Fish Tale Organic Amber, will be in plentiful supply as well. Also on tap for the celebrations are special appearances throughout the day by famed action humorist Lief Olson.
