Emmett's Tavern & Brewing Company took Chicago's brewing community by storm at the 3rd Annual Brewpub Shootout, sponsored by the Chicago Beer Society, held at the Irish American Cultural Center in Chicago. Fifteen brewpubs from around the Chicagoland area, including such stalwarts as Goose Island, Mickey Finn's and Flatlanders went head to head, offering their food and beer pairings in a bid for the title "Best Food & Beer."
The event attracted over 250 beer aficionados from the region. Shootout attendees cast their votes for their favorite beer and food pairings after an afternoon of sampling the best each brewpub had to offer. Chicago Beer Society boardmember, Tom Fitzpatrick, describes fellow members and event goers as some of the "most discerning and finicky consumers of the region." Fitzpatrick went on to say "to win an award here you have to have excellent food AND excellent beer."
After the popular vote was tallied, Emmett's Tavern & Brewing Company received both "Best Beer" and "Best Food & Beer Pairing" awards for their cask-conditioned Scottish Ale and Confit of Duck in a Wild Mushroom Strudel. "I felt confident heading into the competition," said Emmett's managing partner, Andrew Burns. "Most brewpubs don't focus on food like we do. Part of our concept involves the regular pairing of our beer with menu items," said Burns. Emmett's Executive Chef, Chris Corby and Brewer, Ryan Clooney, meet frequently to discuss the brewpub's seasonal food and beer offerings and how to turn them into a unique dining experience for Emmett's customers.
Last October, Emmett's received an award from Brewpub magazine, beating over thirty other candidates, from across North America for the prestigious title, "Start-up of the Year."
Emmett's Tavern & Brewing Company is located at the corner of Main and Second Streets in the historic downtown district of West Dundee, Illinois.
