May 5, 2000 -- New brews and food menu on tap at Glen Ellyn
Brian Gustafson, our Midwest Maven of Malt, was scouting again. Here's what he had to say about Glen Ellyn Brewing's latest offerings.
Three new brews on tap:
Bock, Stock & Barrel, a deep copper colored bock that starts out surprisingly light but builds up midway through the taste with a nice malty rush balanced by a slight alcohol bite. The taste fades slowly and softly.
Iced Tea colored Serenity Now Saison has a nice fruity bouquet and runs the taste gamut in every sip - starting out tart, followed by yeasty overtones, then turning the tiniest bit bitter, and ending nice and dry with no aftertaste.
Diablus Belgian Ale is a dubbel that is very well balanced throughout. The flavor is clean, tight and dry with a controlled burst of fruitiness. Deep red-orange in color, the aroma of this brew is reminiscent of cotton candy. Other beers on tap include Kona Stout, Honey Apricot Ale, and GE Lite.
May 4th brought a brand new menu to GEBC, filled with a large variety of tasty sounding dishes - too numerous to mention here, but if they taste like they look, well worth the trip.
Next month, on June 29th, GEBC will host a 5-course Brewmasters Dinner, which will introduce the annual tapping of the Rooftop Smoked Porter, commemorating the opening of the brewpub which started with a fire on the roof. The dinner will feature smoked foods, of course.
GEBC will also be having a Mother's Day brunch, from 10:00AM to 7:00PM on Sunday, May 14th. Make your reservations now as availability is limited. Call 630-942-1140 for reservations of further information.
