Breaking News - Friend of Beer Drinkers Passes
April 13, 2000 -- Jerry Mead, a.k.a. The Wine Curmudgeon, was a voice for drinkers everywhere
A sad note. Jerry Mead, a.k.a. The Wine Curmudgeon, passed away today (4/13/00) at his home in Carson City, Nevada. He was the publisher of the Wine Trader magazine. Although not a beer guy, Jerry was unalterably opposed to those who would restrict the rights of drinkers to responsibly enjoy their pleasures.
One group that never failed to attract Jerry’s wrath was Mothers Against Drunk Driving. He chronicled their metamorphosis from a grassroots safety group to a slick, professional neo-Prohibitionist organization. He also railed against bureaucrats who restrict interstate shipments of wine and beer. His direct style and biting wit will be missed.
Although we never met in person, Jerry and I swapped subscriptions and tales of publishing woe over the phone and email. We will all miss him.
