Breaking News - John Harris Wins IBS "Scherer Award"
April 12, 2001 -- Full Sail Brewmaster John Harris Honored for Innovation in Craft Brewing
The Institute for Brewing Studies (IBS) honored Full Sail Brewing Company's Brewmaster, John Harris with The Russell Scherer Award for Innovation in Craft Brewing, Saturday April 7, 2001 at the Craft Brewers Conference in Portland, Oregon. The IBS introduced the award in 1997 as a way to honor innovative contributions to the brewing industry. "It is a great honor to accept this award. To receive National recognition for my brewing contributions makes me very proud. This is the highlight of my brewing career", said John Harris.
Russell Scherer was a founding partner and original head brewer at Denver's Wynkoop Brewing Company. When he passed away in 1996 at the age of 38, the Institute for Brewing Studies, located in Boulder, Colorado, established the Russell Scherer award as a way to honor Russell for his contributions to the brewing industry.
Previous recipients include: John Maier of Rogue Ales, Garrett Oliver of the Brooklyn Brewery, Fal Allen, formerly of Pike Brewing, currently of Anderson Valley Brewing and Mark Carpenter of Anchor Brewing.
