Breaking News - National Brewpub Conference & Tradeshow 2000

July 12, 2000 -- Local Beer Tasting, Lobster Bake Dinner Highlight Special Events

Davis, Calif. - In 2000, the National Brewpub Conference & Tradeshow is announcing several new special events and activities for attendees. With only a few months remaining, details are finalized for a traditional New England Lobster Bake Dinner, demonstration booths throughout the tradeshow floor, and the ever-favorite Brewie Awards.

"We're very excited about this year's NBC," says Conference Director Craig Bystrynski. "We've added new, fun special events and parties. Plus we've structured the event to allow attendees the most educational environment possible and plenty of time to network and meet vendors in an intimate and comfortable atmosphere."

The first national brewing event to visit the East Coast in more than five years, NBC's three-day conference begins Saturday, Oct. 21. It features comprehensive sessions in five tracks: Start-ups, Brewery, Executive Management, Kitchen Management, and Restaurant Management. This year more than 40 speakers will present experience-rich sessions on dozens of topics. In addition, complex topics will be divided into in-depth multi-part sessions.

After Saturday's full day of sessions, attendees are invited to gather at Sebago Brewing's newest location in downtown Portland for the annual Welcome Reception hosted by Briess Malt. This favorite gathering will feature a festive atmosphere for tasting the local brewpub beer and hors d'oeuvres.

Sunday will be a packed day! The day will start with sessions, followed by the opening of the tradeshow floor at noon and the Taste of Maine beer sampling at 4 p.m. in the beer garden. That evening we'll be off to Gritty McDuff's in Freeport, Maine. It's time for the Lobster Bake Dinner, sponsored by Crisp Malt. This great traditional New England dinner will include clam steamers, corn on the cob, potato salad, cole slaw, wild Maine blueberry cobbler and, of course, Maine lobster.

Day three, Monday, will be highlighted by the unveiling of this year's Brewie Award winners. In a ceremony on the tradeshow floor, brewpub owners and operators will gather to see which brewpubs are named best in their regions, as well as Start-up of the Year and Brewpub of the Year. Afterward, toast the winners with local brewpub beer and lunch.

This year's packed tradeshow floor will include the Beer Garden, sponsored by Stainless One and Rapids Wholesale Equipment. It will be the site for Sunday's lunch and Taste of Maine as well as Monday's Brewie Awards and lunch. In addition, local brewpub beer will be on tap throughout the tradeshow for tasting.

New this year, interactive demonstration booths for cooking, malt, hops, and yeast are planned. These areas will host innovative and unique demonstrations, including cooking demonstrations from well-known brewpub chefs such as Theo Otte (CooperSmith's Pub & Brewing), John Dickinson (Wynkoop Brewing Co.), Olivier de St. Martin (Dock Street Brasserie), and several other chefs. White Labs is sponsoring the Yeast Demonstration Booth. President Chris White will be on hand to present several demonstrations throughout the tradeshow.

The 2000 National Brewpub Conference & Tradeshow is scheduled for Oct. 21-23 at the Civic Center in Portland, Maine. Hosted in the Old Port area of town, this year's event will bring together expert brewpub owners and operators in an intimate and educational atmosphere.
