Breaking News - Real Ale Festival 2002
February 6, 2002 -- Feb 28 - March 2 at Goose Island Wrigleyville, Chicago, IL
The Sixth Annual Real Ale Festival will feature more than 175 casks of real ale cellared in the traditional way. This is the largest gathering of cask-conditioned ales served anywhere outside of Great Britain. The event draws entries from breweries across America to vie for awards in the country's only national competition of real ales. RAF 2002 will also feature:
* Over a dozen British imports, including many CAMRA champion beers
* Bottle-Conditioned Real Ale tasting all weekend
* Bottle-Conditioned Competition awards
* Real ale brewers, judges, and consumers from the world over
* Vendors of great real ale malts, yeast, and gear
* Homebrew real ale competition and reception on Thursday
* A pre-festival "Real Ale Feast" matching great food and beer
* Special real ale tastings all week at area bars and brewpubs

An additional incentive to head for Chicago is the Real Ale FEAST: the Ultimate Beer Dinner. RAF organizers will be running this on Wednesday, Feb 27 as a prelude to the Real Ale Festival. Food by Chicago's leading culinary institute, beers selected from the wide world of American real ale (bottles and casks) and commentary provided by Mark Dorber from the White Horse in London.
Imagine Duck Breast Pastrami with Roasted Pears, Bitter Greens and Beer Vinaigrette paired with the beer that Malt Advocate named "Domestic Beer of the Year," Cuvee de Tomme from Pizza Port.
And how about Fresh BC Oysters with Mignonette Sauce paired with the wood-fermented Walker's Reserve---a porterish beer from the Firestone-Walker brewery?
Near the end, you'll be enjoying Dogfish Head's 90-minute IPA paired with carrot cake with cream cheese icing. If you haven't tried it, you'll be amazed!
Every attendee will get 8 food items, 10 beers and two specially engraved stemmed beer glasses to take home along with their memories of a wonderful event. A meal like this would easily cost more than $100 "retail," but the RAF gang has put together the whole package for just $75 inclusive.
Spread the word and make plans to join them on Feb 27.
