Michelob Specialty Beer Line Now Totals Six Brews

April, 1998

Anheuser-Busch celebrates the first anniversary of the Michelob Specialty Ales & Lagers by introducing a new member to the family - Michelob Black & Tan. A traditional combination of an ale and a lager, Michelob Black & Tan is now available nationwide.

The Michelob Specialty Ales & Lagers debuted on February 17, 1997, and after just one year on the market, the brands have become the second best-selling micro/specialty brand family in the nation. With popular beers including Michelob Amber Bock, Michelob Honey Lager, Michelob Hefeweizen, Michelob Pale Ale and now Michelob Black & Tan, the Michelob Specialty Ales & Lagers give consumers a variety of specialty beer choices from a name they know and trust.

Michelob Black & Tan combines a full-bodied, robust porter (dark ale) with a lighter-bodied, crisp lager, resulting in a unique, well-balanced beer. Brewed with chocolate, caramel and pale malts, Michelob Black & Tan has a rich, roasted flavor with a smooth finish.

"We brew the lager and the porter separately, and the two are combined just prior to bottling," said Jill Vaughn, brewmaster, Anheuser-Busch Specialty Brewing Group. "The result is a beer that combines the best qualities of both styles - a dark, full-flavored beer that finishes clean."

Michelob Black & Tan contains 5 percent alcohol by volume and has 178 calories per 12-ounce serving.
