Oregon Brewers Guild Wins State Approval for Brewpub Self-Distribution

August, 1999

According to Michael Sherwood of the Oregon Brewers Guild, a compromise bill has been passed by the Oregon State Legislature that would allow pub licensees producing 500 barrels of beer or less each year to self-distribute up to that limit. This is a first for Oregon, which previously allowed sales outside pubs only through distributors. The bill is expected to be approved by the governor and will take effect by November of 1999. Brewpubs that would qualify under the new law include Mia & Pia's, Standing Stone, Philadelphia's Steaks and Hoagies, Umpqua, Oregon Trader, Bank Brewing, Barley Brown's, Bill's Brewhouse, Eugene City, Elliot Glacier Public House, Pacific Rim, Osprey Alehouse, Old World Brewpub and the Mt. Angel Brewing Co.
